The Person Although currently residing in Toronto, Ontario to pursue his musical career, Kalan was born on November 11, 1985 and raised on a sixth generation cattle/buffalo ranch just outside of Medicine Hat, Alberta. It was there he learned the importance of nature, hard work and, most especially, family. In a letter to his fans after a visit to the family ranch, Kalan stated "I think this time I finally noticed something about the ranch and my family that I took for granted while growing up. There is something in those hills, something in the quiet starry black nights, in seeing the buffalo grazing in the sunset. Something about the pride in my grandparents eyes as they stood at the gate, waving goodbye, as we all return to our busy lives.
